Matira Beach is one of the few public beaches on Bora Bora and has lots of water activities although it can get crowded at weekends and holidays. Most resorts have private beaches. The coastal road around the main island of Bora Bora offers some magnificent mountains views, particularly along the east coast.Vaitape is the main town on the west coast of Bora Bora with a marina, restaurant, market and boutique shops. There are few beaches on the west coast except for Povai Bay in the south and Matira Point. There are several excellent walking trails around Bora as well as WW11 strategic guns with great views Public beach at Pavai Bay offers good swimming and is less busy than commercial Matira Point. View to Matira Point and the shallow lagoon from the hilltop on Motu Piti Uuta. The island has an upmarket Sofitel Hotel which has a boat link on request to its sister hotel on Matira. Low lying coral atolls on the fringing reef, with shallow lagoon in the fore and deep sea behind. One of the many tiny islands in the north lagoon - this one has a private lodge for guests looking for the ultimate paradise getaway. Bora Bora lagoon has an amazing variety of marine life with some excellent snorkelling and diving sites where you'll come close to manta rays, reef sharks and mooray eels. View over the lagoon from Le Meridien Resort to the east coast of Bora Bora. The inner lagoon and turtle sanctuary at Le Meridien Resort. The east coast of Bora Bora is mostly rocky with steep slopes and without beaches. There are spectacular views from the offshore motu islets to the west coast of Bora. There are several upmarket resorts on these motu islets with overwater bungalows and steps into the lagoons.
